If the vacancy occurs in the year that the election for that office is already scheduled, then the person appointed shall serve until a successor is elected and qualified. br. *Section 26. The Council.* Vacancies in Council shall be filled by election of the remaining members of the Council of an individual qualified to serve as a member of Council in accordance with this Charter. In the event Council fails to fill such vacancy within thirty (30) days of the occurrence of any vacancy, then the Mayor shall fill such vacancy. Such individual shall serve by appointment until a successor is elected and qualified at an election as specified herein. br. *Section 61A. Succession to Mayor - Acting Mayor.* If the Mayor dies, resigns, is removed from office, or becomes permanently disabled from performing the duties of the office of Mayor, the Mayor shall be succeeded in office until an election of a successor as specified herein by the President of Council, who shall thereby cease to be a member of Council, and who shall hold the office of Mayor until a successor is elected and qualified.
